Pride
First of all, I’m not gay. So I could actually get out of addressing this. But I am me. So I can’t. I need to speak out in this group because I want you to know that you are loved and accepted regardless of your orientation.
See that’s how God works. He loves his creation. Us.
In the early 1990s, I co-facilitated a support group for gay Christian men in my church. They called themselves The Brothers. They came to my house at least once a month. I fed them home cooked meals. I held their hands. I watched as some of them were rejected by their families. I watched as others fell victim to AIDS. They played with my babies, so grateful to have a family even for a few hours. And I went to funerals. Too many funerals.
Through that experience I learned that one thing matters- love. How well we love each other. How well we reflect God’s love. And how well we love ourselves.
Some people will choose to never come out. That’s ok. Some people will celebrate like every day is Pride Day. That’s cool too. The only thing that matters, the only thing, is that we know and we show that God is love.
And Love always wins.
