Labels and Broken People

Are you a Democrat or Republican.
We don’t ask that in this space.
Because it doesn’t matter who you vote for
for us to give you grace.
Are you a man or a woman?
Sometimes it’s hard to tell.
But whatever gender you say you are,
doesn’t matter.. we’ll love you well.
When we label each other this way or that
it can make it kind of hard;
For those who don’t have our labels
tattooed upon their hearts.
When we come here
we speak about brokenness and pain.
We laugh and encourage each other
time and time again.
So talk about how God has helped you
or talk about some shrooms.
What can’t happen here is divisive discussions about God.
We don’t discuss doctrines
of any type of faith.
I’ve got to do a better job
of putting that in its place.
Be kind and listen for
the struggle or celebration.
To pick up what you can learn
or offer motivation.
But please, let’s stay on focus here,
because not everyone agrees.
That the greatest things the world are turtles,
Chocolate milk, cat videos, or cheese.
We’ve got to help each other
because we are all we’ve got.
And if we wear our labels loudly,
we just might leave some hurting one out.
I’m not asking you to change
who you are, or to deny your identity.
But to focus on how those things help you
and how they set you free.
