Please Don't Compare

November 16, 2020 | Joseph E. Reid

Don’t compare yourself to others.

They are not you, with all of your bothers.

You are not them, with all of their secrets.

So do not compare, you don’t know their regrets.

Don’t compare yourself to others.

You do not know their fathers and mothers.

You are not them and not of their line.

So do not compare, you don’t know their mind.

Don’t compare saying they’re better than you.

Not till you’ve walked a mile in their shoe.

You are not them, and don’t see where they broke.

So do not compare, their perfection’s a joke.

Don’t compare saying you’re better than they.

With your style and you swag they cannot pay.

You are not them, and don’t see their diamonds in coal.

So do not compare, your stone with their gold.

Don’t compare, just be who you are.

With your humor, smile, and imperfections so large.

You are not them, or when you look you will miss,

This you that you are, this you that’s your gift.
